Strawberry-Rose Cake Donuts

I love to experiment in the kitchen. Sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn’t. I was actually really worried that this was one of the flavor combos that wouldn’t work out, but that was not the case. Yay! After my oldest son ate one, flowers and all, I knew I had something good. The white glaze is the rose flavored glaze and the dark glaze is a blackberry glaze. For this post I am focusing on the rose flavored glaze only.

For the actual donut, I used strawberry cake mix by Duncan Hines. Honestly, they make a good cake mix. I mean, they must be doing something right to be on the shelves of every big box store.

While the donuts are baking, whip up the rose flavored glaze. See below for the recipe. But first, here’s some more pictures of the donuts! I couldn’t decide which photo I liked more, so I added all of them to the post. 😂

Rose Glaze Ingredients
1/8 to 1/4 tsp rose extract
1/4 cup water
2 cups powdered sugar
1/4 tsp lemon juice
3 drops white food coloring (optional)

Garnish
Edible rose petals (optional)
Edible organic rose buds (optional)

Step 1: Put all the ingredients (except the white food coloring) in a medium size mixing bowl. Make sure to start with 1/8 tsp (half of 1/4 tsp) rose extract and taste test to see if you want to add more. Rose extract has an intense flavor, so adding a tiny bit at a time and taste testing in between is key.

Step 2: Whisk the ingredients until combined. Then add the white food coloring. The food coloring is totally optional, but I wanted the glaze to be extra white.

Step 3: Scoop the glaze using a small spoon and evenly pour on top of the donut.

Step 4: While the glaze is still wet, sprinkle the tops with edible rose petals/buds and serve! If you are not sure how you feel about eating rose petals, you can substitute for any type of sprinkles.

And that’s a wrap! I hope you enjoyed my post. If you decide to make these donuts, please let me know! I love hearing from you!!!

Until next time. Xo

Please share how you make the doughnuts…….do you have a mold you bake them in or……I’m confused!! Thanks so much, Cate

Yes! The mold should be linked at the bottom of the post. I used strawberry cake mix. Just prepare the cake mix as you would for a cake. I use a ziplock bag to pour the batter into and cut a slit in one tip to pipe it in the donut mold. Super easy. ❤️
