Back in the day I use to get all dressed up and would have a night out on the town for NYE, but these days not so much. With having two boys, I like to spend NYE with them. And let’s be honest, I love my sweats and yoga pants too much. π I love to make all the little things extra special, but on a budget. I will go all out for Christmas, but I really don’t like to spend money on temporary items, such as New Year’s Eve decor.
So this year I made everything for NYE with items I already had on hand. Like a simple glitzy garland using leftover wrapping paper and cookies from friends and coworkers that we were given for Christmas.
I spent less than an hour putting everything together. See, simple! So if you have an hour to spare let’s do this!
DIY Glitzy Garland
Materials:
- Wrapping paper
- Twine or string
- 2 inch circle hole punch
- Tape
- Scissors
Step 1: Cut a clean line down the end of the wrapping paper.
Step 2: Take the 2″ circle hole punch and line it up with the wrapping paper & punch the holes all the way down the wrapping paper until you get to the other end.
Step 3: Using the scissors, cut another clean line down the wrapping paper removing the excess from where you used the hole punch.
Step 4: Repeat steps 2 & 3 until you have the desired amount of circles.
Step 5: Lay the twine or string flat and tape one circle at a time to the twine or string.
Tip: I applied the first cut out about 2 inches in & spaced the cut outs approximately 2 inches apart.
Step 6: Once you are done applying the cut outs, cut the end of the twine or string removing the excess.
Hang your garland and your done! I hung the garland on our large chalkboard with a quote I found fitting for NYE.
Next the sweet treats. Again, because I wasn’t trying to put a ton of effort into this, I decided to serve milk in champagne flutes with sprinkles around the rim. My oldest calls them fancy {fann-cee} glasses. π
To add a sprinkle rim to your glasses follow these simple steps.
Step 1: Get two bowls.
Step 2: Fill one bowl with about an inch of water and put the sprinkles in the other bowl.
Step 3: Dip the rim of the glass into the bowl with water, then gently dip it into the bowl with sprinkles.
Step 4: Repeat step 3 until all the glasses are finished!
Step 5: Add the milk!
Tip: To ensure I didn’t mess up the sprinkles around the rim when adding the milk, I used a silicone funnel.
Lay out some cookies (we all know you have tons of cookies from Christmas) with the milk and let the kids enjoy as you bring in the New Year together!
Like I said, easy peasy and the kids will love it!
Thank you so much for stopping by. I hope you leave here inspired and wish you and your family a Happy New Year! The best is yet to come. Xoxo
