Did you know rose petals are edible? Well they are along with other flowers. I found THIS LIST on Pinterest a while back and found it very helpful.
I made these lollipops for Valentine’s Day to give to my coworkers this year. Aren’t they cute?
This is the third time making homemade lollipops but this is my favorite flavor to date. I used edible rose extract, which I didn’t even know existed until I stumbled upon it whole browsing Amazon. Thanks, Amazon!
The last batch I made I used whole rose petals, but since I was making them for Valentine’s Day, I wanted to take it up a notch and cut out hearts using rose petals. I think the heart shaped petals were the perfect addition.
To make your own, follow the recipe below.
Ingredients:
2 cups of sugar
2/3 cup of light corn syrup
2/3 cup water
1/2 tsp of edible rose extract
1 drop of pink gel food coloring (optional)
12-18 fresh rose petals
Baking Tools:
Candy thermometer
Sauce pan
Spoon
Wax paper or silicon lollipop mold
12-18 lollipop sticks
Baking spray
This recipe yields 12-18 lollipops
Step 1: Remove the rose petals from the stem and cut one heart out from each petal. To do this fold the petal in half (long ways) as you would a piece of construction paper.
Step 2: Add the sugar, light corn syrup, & water to a sauce pan and turn the burner to high heat and stir to combine the ingredients.
Step 3: Place the candy thermometer into the pan and boil until the mixture reached hard crack state (302 degrees).
Tip: This can take 10-20 minutes, but make sure to watch it as the mix will quickly turn brown if you over-cook it.
Step 4: While the mixture is heating, lay down a piece of wax paper or silicon mat (if you aren’t using a mold) and lightly spray it with cooking spray. You’ll need to spray the lollipop mold if you are using one. The first time I used wax paper, but this time I used THIS MOLD.
Step 5: Remove the pan from the heat as soon as hard crack State is achieved and quickly add in the edible rose extract and drop of pink food coloring while stirring.
Tip: Be careful not to add too much food coloring. Adding too much can ruin the batch.
Step 6: Quickly add a spoon full of the sugar mix to the mold or wax paper, lay the heart shaped rose petal face down, add another spoonful to cover the rose petal, then lightly push the lollipop stick about a quarter inch into the bottom of the lollipop and turn to make sure the stick adheres to the mix.
Tip: You have about 5-7 minutes until the mix completely hardens so you need to work fast.
Step 7: Let the lollipops harden (about 30 minutes) then enjoy or package for gifts!
That’s a wrap! I hope you enjoyed my post. I would love to know if you make these. Definitely let me know. You can comment below or message me on Instagram. My handle is @acarriedaffairdesigns
