Homemade Churros

With all the desserts in the world, my favorite would have to be churros. I know, so random. I just love them SO MUCH! There was a restaurant that I would always get them at, but last year that restaurant closed. I was a little devastated. I found them at a different restaurant but they were not good at all. So since the restaurant that I would always get them at closed, I have not had a good churro…until now! Eek!

Because I love how they came out, I am sharing this easy recipe with you! The ingredients and instructions are below.

Pastry Ingredients
1 1/2 cups water
12 tbsp unsalted butter – cold and cubed
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1/4 tsp kosher salt
3 eggs
2 1/2 cups vegetable oil

Coating
1 cup granulated sugar
1 tbsp ground cinnamon

Chocolate Ganache
1/4 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup dark chocolate chips

Step 1: Lay paper towel on a dinner plate and set aside. This is where you will put the churros to soak up some of the oil as well as allow them to cool before coating them.

Step 2: Prepare the sugar coating. In a medium bowl mix the sugar and cinnamon and whisk until well combined. Set aside.

Step 3: On medium heat in a medium sauce pan, add the water, butter, and vanilla extract. Stir to mix. Bring to a simmer.

Step 4: Whisk the eggs in a small bowl and set to the side.

Step 5: Add the flour, kosher salt, and eggs to the pan and stir with a wooden spoon until well combined. Set aside.

Step 6: Add the 2 1/2 cups of vegetable oil to a large sauté pan and turn the burner to medium heat.

Step 7: While the oil is heating, scoop the batter into a large piping bag with a star tip.

Step 8: Once the oil is hot enough, pipe 4-6 churros into the pan. The oil is hot enough if bubbles immediately surround the churro once piped into the pan).

Step 9: Allow the churros to cook on each side for about 2 minutes or until golden brown. When the first side is golden brown, flip it (using tongs) to cook the other side.

Step 10: Immediately remove from the oil and place on the paper towel lined plate.

Step 11: As soon as the churros are able to be handled, quickly toss them into the sugar coating, then place on a parchment paper lined cookie sheet.

Step 12: Make the chocolate ganache dipping sauce. Put the heavy cream in a microwave safe bowl and heat for 1 minute. Remove from the microwave and add the chocolate chips. Immediately cover the bowl with a lid. Allow it to set for 3 minutes.

Step 13: Remove the lid and whisk starting at the center then work your way out.

Step 14: Serve and enjoy!!

I hope you enjoyed this post. Until next time friends. Xo
