Holiday Home Tour 2016

Hi friends! This is my first time doing a holiday home tour and I am so excited to show you how I have decorated for the holidays this year! I hope you enjoy and leave here inspired. I initially hesitated to do this, as I know my home isnt anything glamourous, but it is a home that my husband and I have put a lot of labor and love into, to make it ours.

I made a lot of our Christmas decor this year with materials I already had or used decorations from previous years. We didn’t want to spend a crazy amount of money on seasonal decor, so being an avid DIY’er definitely has its perks!

This year I wanted a simple farmhouse look with a touch of modern charm, so I used lots of fresh greenery with pops of traditional red.

Here we go!

The Entryway

I love how open our Entryway is. We have vaulted ceilings so I didn’t want to do a lot with this room, as I didn’t want to take anything away from the natural beauty. I made a simple garland using fresh cedar and seeded eucalyptus, then finished it with a gold and burlap bow. The tutorial for the garland and bow are both on the blog. Click here for the details.ย

The Main Living Room

I did buy these pillows this year. I just couldn’t help myself. They fit perfectly with the theme. I purchased them from Lucy @mscraftberrybush she makes the most beautiful Christmas pillows. I was lucky enough to snatch these up while they were on sale.

This might be the prettiest Christmas tree I have ever put together. Plus, this is the first real tree we’ve ever had in all our years of living! I am so in love. ๐Ÿ˜ I don’t think I’ll ever be able to have an artificial tree again. The flocking is my favorite. My husband and I did it ourselves. We purchased the sno-flock from Amazon.

The old record player was my mom’s. โค๏ธ I thought it fit perfectly with our Christmas theme this year.

If you’re curious I listed the places I purchased the ornaments, stockings, & zinc letters below.

  • Snowman & sweater ornaments – Crate & Barrel
  • Cardinal’s, Merry Christmas sign, plaid ornaments, plaid ice skate ornament, & red truck ornament – Pottery Barn
  • Bird’s nest tree topper – Habig Garden Shop
  • White wooden letter Merry Christmas Garland – Handmade by me. Click here for the tutorial.
  • Red berry twigs – Hobby Lobby
  • Stockings – Dawna-Beth @chataur_par_la_mer on Instagram
  • Zinc letters – Restyled Boutique

The fire truck is baby K’s Christmas gift, ๐Ÿš’ but thought it looked perfect for this shot so I left it there.

I made the tree skirt several years ago. It’s one of my favorite Christmas items.

My husband did want me to point out that he had nothing to do with the cardinal ornaments as he is a die hard Cubs fan. ๐Ÿป He was definitely in shock when he saw me put them on the tree. ๐Ÿ˜‚ He insisted on me hanging his Cubs ornament, but it didn’t fit the theme. Sorry hubby. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜˜

Aren’t these Christmas bells darling? I purchased them from Michaels at 50% off! $5 total! I removed the original red and white rope that was holding the bells together and replaced it with twine for a more simple look.

I made the mini pine wreath to give it a pop of color against the shiplap.

The Kitchen

My favorite room in the house. โค๏ธ I kept the decor neutral with lots of fresh greenery.

These glass canisters are all over my kitchen. They are so versatile & simple. I purchased them at Crate & Barrel, but I believe you can get them at Target & Walmart.

I made the mini wreath with fresh Christmas greens and tied it together with cream and black ribbon I found in the Target dollar spot.

I laid scraps of fresh cedar along the bottom shelf and made the fresh cedar wreath. Click here for the tutorial.ย I wanted a very neutral farmhouse style theme in the kitchen so I only added natural elements.

The Dining Room

This room has been a challenge to decorate. It isn’t a large room so space has been an obstacle. I didn’t want to add a lot as I though it would make this room look too busy. I would be lying if I said the mini gingerbread village in apothecary jars was my idea. I actually saw this on two of my favorite IG accountsย Lucy’s @mscraftberry & Rachel’s @rachelelizabethcreates and knew that I wanted to borrow their idea for the dining room table centerpiece. They say copying someone is the ultimate flattery, which I agree with. ๐Ÿ˜Š

I added the red ribbon to give the centerpiece a pop of color amongst all the neutral.

This piece of furniture was originally a tv armoire, but with a little paint and sweat I turned it into a hutch.

With all the white I wanted to add some color, and what better way then to make mini buffalo checkered scarves for the woodland critters.

I found these white ceramic houses at Target for $3. They fit perfectly with the look I was going for so I brought three of them home with me. Plus $3 is a steal compared to other retailers!

I found the birds nest at Michaels and added a little greenery and red berry twigs. I paired it with one of the cardinal ornaments and voila! A Christmas mug rack. โค๏ธ

For the finale, I leave you with these adorable gingerbread snowflake mug toppers!! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ You can purchase them at Anthropologie if you love them as much as I do. Now that I’m done photographing it, in my belly it goes. ๐Ÿ˜‹

Well friends that’s it. Thank you so much for stopping by! I hope you enjoyed my first holiday home tour and feel inspired to create something that makes your heart smile. โค๏ธ

Merry a Christmas friends. ๐ŸŒฒ Until next time. Xoxo
