Simple Watermelon Sorbet Recipe

I did a lot of research and read through several recipes on how to make sorbet and they all varied from techniques to ingredients. After having a good understanding the basics to make sorbet, I decided to concoct my own recipe. Spoiler alert, it’s crazy easy!

THIS POST specifically is very informative on how to make tons of different sorbet flavors.

I wanted to make sorbet with only natural sugars so omitted granulated sugar or  “simple syrup” i.e. sugar and water. My boys love ice cream, so I thought this would be a good way to trick them into eating fruit. 😂

I used mint from our herb garden. I hadn’t watered the garden in several days because of all the rain, so when I finally went out to check on the garden as well as grab some mint, I was shocked to see how much everything had grown. 😳

Enough about that. Let’s get to the recipe!

Ingredients
Watermelon (medium size)
1 lemon (juice only)
Fresh mint (optional)

Kitchen utensils
Food processor
Strainer/sifter
Wooden spoon
1 lb. loaf pan
Foil
Ice cream scoop

Once you have all your ingredients and utensils gathered follow the steps below.

Step 1: Remove the rind and cut the watermelon into cubes.

Step 2: Put the cubed watermelon and fresh lemon juice into the food processor and purée until smooth. I added a few sprigs of fresh mint as well, but that is completely optional.

Step 3: Place the strainer over a large mixing bowl and pour the purée into the strainer. Doing this removes any seeds or chunks from the mix.

Step 4: Pour the contents from the mixing bowl into a loaf pan. Cover with foil and put in the freezer overnight.

Step 5: Take the loaf pan from the freezer and let it set for a few minutes to loosen up the sorbet.

Step 6: Using an ice cream scoop (I love THIS ONE), scoop the sorbet from the loaf pan and put into the food processor for a few seconds. This is the food process I use and I love it!

Funny story about the food processor. Last year on our 4th wedding anniversary, this food processor was my gift from my hubby. I’ll be real honest, I was not the happiest of happy. 😑 But honestly, I am so glad he got it for me! I have used it countless times and is a staple when I bake. Now we laugh about it. BUT for all you married men out there, don’t buy your wife a food processor as an anniversary gift. 😂 Ok, back to the recipe.

Step 7: Pour the sorbet back into the loaf pan and enjoy!

I served the sorbet in these cute jadeite dessert bowls from the Hearth and Hand line at Target and garnished with fresh mint.

And that’s a wrap! I hope you enjoyed my post. My goal has always been to inspire and encourage others, so I hope that shows.

Until next time. Xo
